Remembering the man who barcoded the world18/12/2019 BARCODING THE WORLD
In our daily lives, most of us hardly give the barcode a second thought. We may interact with it when we’re shopping and even then, it is merely the “bunch of lines and spaces” that helps us process the transaction and buy an item. Most think that the purpose of this black and white mark is, well, black and white. More information on the Zebra blog here. A successful WMS is a helpful one10/12/2019 Primepac is a leading manufacturer & distributor of industrial suppliers & packaging products. They currently have warehouses in Auckland and Christchurch and use MYOB EXO as their ERP system.
To maximise operational effectiveness at Primepac the business implemented The RIC Group’s Warehouse Management Solution with Multi-bin for MYOB EXO at both warehouse locations. Samuel Walton, Finance Manager at Primepac states one of the reasons for selecting The RIC Group’s WMS is it integrates seamlessly into MYOB EXO and has ongoing product enhancements. When asked about return on investment, Samuel from Primepac said “Since implementation we’re seeing a reduction in costs associated with missing / misplaced stock in the warehouse now that we have the feature of bin control. We have also been using The RIC Group’s TMS solution which has provided us with route planning and proof of delivery.” The WMS and TMS solution is browser based which has allowed Primepac to deploy Samsung tablets mounted to the trolleys for the picking and putaway process. It allows the user to clearly see the products due to the bigger real estate on the screen. The WMS has ensured the reduction in travel time and touches which has helped reduce operational costs. Postmodern ERP is defined as the situation where companies abandon the traditional practice of using single, monolithic ERP platforms for several unique tasks and instead adopt a collection of individual standalone programs. In the past, ERP solutions were built comprehensively to offer business users a wide range of services under one collective umbrella. There is no doubt that cloud-based software and integration opportunity have promoted the change from "all-in-one" legacy systems to picking and choosing solutions where your business only pays for and implements the tools it needs. Flexibility is key and this is a big reason why enterprises are gravitating towards a postmodern ERP. With the availability of subscription pricing it does mean with with postmodern ERP software companies get exactly what they need instead of paying and reserving space for unnecessary functions. The RIC Group's WMS is a best of breed WMS and is loosely coupled with the ERP. The pricing is a subscription model and customers select which features they would like implemented. A key reason we have always used a loosely coupled approach as an ISV (Independent software vendor) is that our WMS and TMS solution offers real scalability and versatility. Putting a box solution in place, can always lead to growing pains down the road. Email our team at [email protected] for further information for our Warehouse Management Solution. |
